Ken McKie biography

Although born in Northumberland, Ken McKie has spent most of his life in South
Yorkshire, near to Doncaster Racecourse and the Northern Racing College. Married to
the children's writer Anne McKie, they have worked together writing and illustrating
children's books for international publishers for almost 30 years. With over 250 books to
their credit, they are among the most prolific writer/illustrator partnerships in the world.
Over the years Ken has painted his favourite subject - horses, whenever time allowed,
until finally they have taken over. The transition from children's books to equestrian art
may seem strange, but as Ken says, "I started out as a technical illustrator before
illustrating for children. One required accurate drawing skill, the other the ability to
create energy and life. To me, that is what horses are all about!"
